Frequently asked questions

How to install an ETC tag ?

The eurotoll tag

The teletoll tag can be installed easily and without bringing your vehicle to a standstill. It fits into a stand, provided with the badge, which is fitted to the vehicle's windscreen.

La TriboxTM

TriboxTM is an ETC tag which gives access to satellite positioning services. It can be easily fitted and can be plugged into the cigarette lighter or connected to the vehicle's power supply. TriboxTM is developed and commercialised exclusively by eurotoll.

How do the toll barriers work ?

There is no longer any need for a ticket or card, the barriers lift automatically and you drive through without stopping.
A « t » or orange hexagon indicates the ETC HGV lanes.
Some distance before reaching the ETC beacon, the tag on the windscreen is detected and transmits the information needed for collecting the toll (vehicle class, entry tollgate, exit toll gate, etc.). In just a few seconds, when the data has been exchanged, the tag emits a beep and the barrier lifts.

How will electronic toll journeys be invoiced ?

You will receive a single invoice that includes all the toll expenses of all your trips in France (and soon throughout Europe), net of the discounts granted by the motorway companies.

What to do when your tag does not work ?

A damaged or defective tag usually works in the manual lanes. The toll station employee passes the tag in front of a bar code reader to decipher the label found on the back of the tag. The vehicle class and the necessary information for the toll payment and the calculation of the discount are then transmitted to the information systems.
If the vehicle is already stuck in the ETC lane, motorway companies have fitted the ETC beacon with intercom which enables the driver to call a toll station employee who does the operation manually.

What to do in the event of loss or theft ?

In the event of loss or theft of a badge, you must make a statement as soon as possible at a eurotoll service point. When going through the next toll barriers, the driver pays the toll charge using a different means of payment, cash or magnetic card. These journeys cannot be counted for the calculation of discounts.
To report the loss or theft immediately, the driver or his fleet manager should contact the Stop Payment Service open 24h/24 and 7/7. The Stop Payment Service transfers the call immediately to Customer Services to arrange for a tag replacement and arranges with Customer Services that the customer will be contacted shortly.

What data is encoded in the tag ?

The tags provided by the contract issuer companies contain the data for identifying your vehicle :

  • The reference numbers of the customer and the tag
  • The data enabling the tag to be accepted by the network (contract information, expiry date, subscription, and activation)
  • The vehicle’s registration number
  • The European vehicle pollution class

The identification of the tag enables the toll fees and related discounts to be consolidated by eurotoll in a single invoice.
